Last Saturday, after more than two years of planning and preparation, Dr. Sam Rehnborg and the Double X crew embarked on a South Pacific adventure. The goal? To retrace Dr. Sam’s voyage from 40 years ago, observing how diet and lifestyle habits influence people’s health in different cultures.
The air was buzzing with excitement as well-wishers gathered on the Marin Headlands, holding bon voyage banners and cheering on the crew as they departed. One of those well-wishers was Dr. Sam’s wife, Francesca, who will join the crew in a few weeks.
In addition to the crowd on land a helicopter flew overhead with a camera dangling off its nose capturing the excitement as the Double X sailed under the bridge.
The launch was a thrilling culmination to weeks of preparation. Many details went into planning, including carefully packed bags; checking and rechecking supplies; purchasing, preparing and storing food and even completing a medical training.
Throughout the journey, Dr. Sam and the Double X crew will report back on their adventures, the people they meet and the places they visit. Dr. Sam will also share his reflections on changes since he set sail to some of the same destinations more than 40 years ago.
